A Quiet Moment in the Kitchen

There is a moment, right around 6:00 PM, when the sun starts to slant low through the kitchen window and hit the cutting board. It is a quiet, simple hour. Today, the counter is covered in fresh green dill, flat-leaf parsley, and bright yellow lemon wheels. Chop the herbs, and the room fills with the smell of summer. It is fresh. It is clean. It makes you want to open the back door and let the breeze in.
The Well of Grace
When we think about nourishing our bodies, we often focus on the rules. We think about what we should exclude or what we need to measure. But stewardship is about so much more than rules. It is about honoring the life we have been given. God made our bodies with such care, and He filled the earth with foods that sustain and heal us. Salmon is one of those foods. It is packed with good fats, beautiful in color, and requires so little from us to taste wonderful.
Jesus talks about a different kind of nourishment in the Gospel of John. He tells the woman at the well, "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst." It is a beautiful promise. In our busy, cluttered lives, we spend so much energy trying to fill ourselves up. We chase after success, or comfort, or the approval of others, yet we end up feeling dry. We forget that the only thing that can truly satisfy our deepest hunger is His grace. When we cook a simple, honest meal like this salmon, it is a chance to slow down. We can rest in the truth that we are already provided for. We do not have to strive so hard. We can just sit at the table, receive what is given, and be filled.
Stewardship is not just about keeping a budget. It is about stewarding our energy and our peace. It is about choosing to nourish ourselves in ways that bring life, not stress. So as you lay your salmon on the pan tonight and scatter the asparagus, take a deep breath. Let the zesty aroma of lemon remind you that the table you are setting is a place of refreshment and grace.

Around the Table
Fellowship Question: What area of your life feels like it needs living water right now?
Stewardship Tip: Buy wild-caught salmon when possible. If budget is a concern, canned wild salmon is an excellent and affordable alternative for salmon cakes and salads.
May your table tonight be a place of refreshment, quiet laughter, and sweet fellowship. Warmly, Hannah
